Youth at the heart of the EU - UK relationship
Following today’s EU-UK summit, the European Commission and the United Kingdom have agreed that they should work towards a series of new initiatives aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation which include a focus on young people and educational exchange.

Developing a new youth mobility scheme
A key outcome of the summit is the decision to work towards a balanced youth experience scheme. This new initiative should ease the participation of young people from both the EU and the UK in a range of activities - such as work, studies, au-pairing, volunteering, or simply travelling - for a limited period. The scheme should include a dedicated visa pathway, with the overall number of participants to be mutually agreed, ensuring a fair and managed approach.
Progressing toward UK association to Erasmus+
The UK and European Commission have also agreed they should work towards the UK’s association to the Erasmus+ programme. Negotiations should focus on mutually agreed financial terms and benefits, ensuring a fair balance and alignment with the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework and the Trade and Cooperation Agreement.
Supporting cultural and artistic exchange
Both parties have reaffirmed their efforts to supporting travel and cultural exchange, including for touring artists, recognising the value of such exchanges in building mutual understanding and enriching cultural life.
These initiatives mark a significant step forward in renewing and modernising the EU-UK relationship, with a renewed focus on youth, education, and cultural mobility.
